crazy days

Johnny hears a buzzing, he jumps out of bed,

He’s got a hole in his pocket, a dream in his head;

Alarm clock's screaming, time for him to go,

But Johnny’s still dreaming, his feet are slow.

A shout from the kitchen, his food’s on the plate,

He’d better pick up his heels, he’s going to be late;

He’s got his arms in his trousers, his hand in a shoe,

He’s upside-down, doesn’t know what to do -

He’s in a daze - crazy days.

Johnny’s at the bus-stop standing in the queue,

His toes are frozen, his fingers are blue;

Conductor's screaming, time for him to pay,

But Johnny’s still dreaming, he’s miles away.

A whistle from the factory, they’re closing the gate,

He’d better pick up his heels, he’s going to be late;

He’s got his eyes on the clock-in, his hand on the card,

He might just make it but it’s going to be hard -

He’s in a daze - crazy days.

Johnny’s in the bar-room swilling down the beer,

He’s got smoke in his eyes, music in his ear;

Landlord's screaming, time to close the bar,

But Johnny’s still dreaming, his thoughts are afar.

A ring from the counter, the bill’s on the slate,

He’d better pick up his heels, he’s going to be late;

He’s got his bum on a barstool, his eyes on a girl,

His hands are steady but he’s starting to swirl -

He’s in a daze - crazy days.

Johnny’s in the bathroom staring at himself,

He’s got hope in his eyes, soap on the shelf;

Conscience screaming, time to understand,

But Johnny’s still dreaming in a faraway land.

A yell from the hallway, someone can’t wait,

He’d better pick up his heels, he’s going to be late;

He’s got soap in his eyes, his hope on the shelf,

Reflection’s fading, he’s losing himself -

He’s in a daze - crazy days.
